Silver & Tin invites you to slow down and enjoy the 19th century photographic  process that leaves you with a one-of-a-kind heirloom that will last multiple lifetimes.

The Tintype photography process (or wet plate collodion photography) was the main form of photography between the 1850's to 1920's. It  involves coating a thin piece of metal or glass (today we use black aluminum) with light-sensitive chemistry called collodion to create an image. Tintype exposures are slow compared to modern camera photography, so preparation and processing take time. After a 3 to 8 second exposure using natural light (or a 1/60th of a second with my studio lights), the combination of chemistry, technique, and patience, produces an image that are uncommon in other types of photographic images.

Its important for me to keep my work accessible to all people. If the price is out of range for you at the moment, I’m always open to work with folks by donation, please email me to get you in the schedule, and you can make your donation day of.
