Salt Spring Tuesday Farmers' Market Opening Day

The Salt Spring Tuesday Farmers' Market is officially back for the season, and we made our way down as a family to take in the first market day of the year. After the slower rhythm of winter, there was something so good about seeing the market come alive again with familiar faces, local food, handmade goods, and that easy Salt Spring feeling that makes these weekly gatherings so special.

For us, the highlight of the first Salt Spring Tuesday Farmers' Market was visiting Sue from Duck Creek Farms and seeing the handmade shopping baskets she created throughout the winter. Each one felt thoughtful, sturdy, and beautifully made, the kind of piece that carries the feeling of the island with it. It was a sweet reminder of how much quiet work happens in the off-season before everyone returns to the market tables in spring.

We left feeling grateful for the return of market season, for a family morning downtown, and for the people who keep local traditions like this alive. The Salt Spring Tuesday Farmers' Market is one of those simple weekly rituals that brings together farmers, makers, neighbours, visitors, and families, and opening day felt like the perfect start to the season.
