An Evening at the Salt Spring Island Ukrainian Fundraiser Dinner

An Evening at the Salt Spring Island Ukrainian Fundraiser Dinner

Last Saturday evening I had the privilege of attending a Ukrainian fundraiser dinner here on Salt Spring Island, and I'm really glad I went.

I brought my family along for the night, which made it feel all the more meaningful. The Ukrainian choir was a highlight of the evening hearing those voices together in a room full of people who had gathered to show up for something that mattered was one of those moments that stays with you. I also had the chance to sit with some of the families whose portraits I was capturing throughout the evening and hear a little of their stories.

That part I won't forget quickly.

A sincere thank you to Igor Darmokhval for the invitation, and for organizing the evening alongside what was clearly a tremendous group of volunteers. Events like this don't happen without a lot of people giving their time quietly and behind the scenes, and it showed in every detail of the night.

Salt Spring Island continues to show up for the people who need it. I feel lucky to live somewhere that does that, and grateful for every opportunity to document it.
