Tsatsu Stalqayu (Coastal Wolf Pack)A Celebration of Coast Salish Song, Dance & Family
Tsatsu Stalqayu, the Coastal Wolf Pack , is a family group of singers and dancers from several Coast Salish Nations, including Musqueam, Squamish, Tsartlip, and Nanaimo. Their performances carry forward songs, dances, and stories that have been passed down through generations, sharing the spirit and teachings of their ancestors.
The group’s work is about more than performance, it’s a continuation of identity, community, and connection to land. As they describe it: “Just as wolves travel in packs and work together to flourish in life, our group runs with one heart and one mind.”
A Personal Note
It’s been such a pleasure to photograph Tsatsu Stalqayu and to work with Shadae Johnson again. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to witness her leadership and creativity in many forms, and it’s been meaningful to deepen our friendship, and my connection with her family, through this project.
Being welcomed into moments like this, where culture, family, and tradition come together, is something I don’t take lightly. I hope these images reflect the heart and strength of what Tsatsu Stalqayu shares with every performance.
