Stowel Lake Farm Square Dance

Last Saturday felt like the kind of evening Salt Spring does better than anywhere else. Stowel Lake Farm opened its doors, people showed up, and somewhere between the music and the movement, it became something worth remembering.

Square dance has a way of doing that. There's no pretense to it, you just learn the steps, you mess them up, you try again, and suddenly you're in sync with a room full of strangers. It's one of the more honest ways I've seen people come together.

A huge thank you to Adrien for making it happen. Events like this don't run themselves, and the care that went into the evening was felt. Also much love to Paul Silveria, Wesley Hardisty, Charlie Gannon and Sam Howard for making us all move.

Stowel Lake Farm is always a good backdrop for community. There's something about that land that makes people slow down and actually be present with each other, which is increasingly rare, and increasingly worth protecting.

These photos are my attempt to hold onto a little of that. I hope they do it justice.
