Port Hardy Secondary Grads

There's a particular kind of energy to grad season. Equal parts pride and nerves, one foot still in the hallway and one already out the door. I spent a day photographing the grads at Port Hardy Secondary, and it was a good reminder of why I keep coming back to this work.

These kids have grown up in Port Hardy, up at the top end of Vancouver Island, and you can see it in how they carry themselves. There's a groundedness to them that doesn't always show up in front of a camera, but it did here.

We kept things relaxed. Some of the best frames came in the in-between moments, the laughing and the shifting and the figuring out where to put their hands. That's usually where the real ones live.

To the Class of 2026, congratulations. This is a big one, and you earned it. Whatever comes next, you've got a good place to come back to.
